The Mothership.
As Melbourne's congestion problem compounds due to e-commerce, the return of traditional freight traffic post-COVID, and the lack of loading infrastructure in the CBD, The Mothership is a way to leverage Melbourne's underutilized tram system and reduce congestion and emissions. The Mothership is a courier tram that specializes in last mile delivery services in metro and suburban areas. Carrying manned, autonomous vans loaded with mail and parcels, they disembark at designated service areas, where they replace the role of light to medium commercial vehicles. These vans then return to The Mothership, where they quick-charge and are loaded with more mail, ready for another round.
